Limited Edition Star Wars Darth Devon

Oh man, we're excited to share this very exclusive limited edition with you. There is no cooler watch than the Devon Tread 1 and for the first time ever, a rare collection of Darth Vader inspired models available for preorder now at
A New Force Awakens in Watches
Using technology taken from the cockpits of modern airliners, Devon created a system of four microstep motors powered by a hybrid electro-mechanical source, along with an optical recognition system that tells time more precisely than any purely mechanical watch made today. So precise, in fact, that it is accurate to within one half second per day. Details in this rare watch are dramatic and angular, and reflect iconic parts of the TIE Fighter and Darth Vader’s armor. The design is so advanced, one would not be surprised if Darth Vader himself were seen wearing it. The look is intense. The movements of the interwoven time belts are mesmerizing. The craftsmanship is extraordinary. Feel the strength. Feel the power. Feel the force.

The Details
Featuring over 350 individual pieces, 4 microstep motors, 4 fiberglass-reinforced nylon belts, and 313 electrical contacts, this substantial watch is as revolutionary as the TIE Fighter Starship itself. An impressive kinetic sculpture, everything about this watch is as compact and smooth-maneuvering as the TIE Fighters and as intense and intimidating as Darth Vader. Creator Scott Devon says, “Cinema’s greatest villain, Darth Vader, is now symbolized in an avant-garde watch.

Design Details
Darth Vader Helmet
Silver screws at the base of the watch emulate those on Darth Vader’s helmet. Rather than using Dark Side alchemy to further strengthen the metal, Devon teamed up with an aerospace engineering company to create a strong and fluid watch that is as impressive as Darth Vader’s armor.
Tie Fighter Wing
The hexagonal wing of the TIE Fighter is one of the more recognizable shapes from Star Wars and is depicted on either side of the watch, as well as the indicator on the face. The shape creates a peek at the red and green motor covers that are representative of the controls on Darth Vader’s center console. All of this is protected by scratch-resistant polycarbonate with bulletproof durability. While the watch does not draw on the energy of starlight, it does mimic the advanced design of the starship.
Imperial Crest
The symbol of the Galactic Empire is featured on the crown used to operate the watch, and is a reminder of the steadfast determination and loyalty the TIE Fighter pilots had toward the empire. Power for the Devon Star Wars watch is provided by a rechargeable cell that runs for up to two weeks on a single charge.
Titanium Fasteners
This low density, high strength metal is indicative of the overall strength and performance of the watch. The strength and durability of this watch extends to the strap, which is appropriately ribbed to replicate Darth Vader’s gloves.
Star Wars and Devon: a New Force Awakens in Watches

Los Angeles -- This December a new Force will be with us. Disney, which is producing the newest Star Wars movie “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” that will rocket into theaters on December 18, has teamed with cutting-edge American watch brand, Devon, to become the Official Licensee for the creation of a Star Wars by Devon luxury timepiece that is the epitome of space age and Darth Vader.
Like the movie, the bold new Star Wars by Devon watch – with patented system of interwoven Time Belts™   and hybrid electro-mechanical power -- embodies the pioneering spirit of the original film and is designed to capture the movie’s cult-like following.

The partnership between Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Devon, which celebrates its fifth anniversary this year, is teeming with fortuitous forces. In fact, the synergies between these two partners are galactic, ranging from both Devon and the renowned Industrial Light & Magic production company (where Star Wars’ special effects come to life) being based in Southern California, to both being revolutionary in design, engineering and execution.

The entire Star Wars concept is built on an empire of special effects and space-age technology. The same is true of Devon, a rare breed in the watch industry whose high-tech watches house materials sourced from a California aerospace company that works with Devon to make the impossible possible.  The watches – with belt-driven time indication – are so advanced in design that they look like they are from another galaxy-- much like the planets and settings of Star Wars.
The advanced engineering in the Star Wars by Devon watch movement deftly combines glass-reinforced nylon belts (used in gauges on the original 747 aircraft) with multiple high-tech optical recognition cells, micro-step motors, and 313 electrical contacts. In fact, the circuit boards and control boards alone make the timepiece a kinetic engineering masterpiece – and the perfect platform for US Aerospace meets Star Wars.

“The technology for our watches didn’t exist. We had to create everything from scratch and invent as we went along,” says Scott Devon, founder and creative director of Devon Works. “But George Lucas and Industrial Light and Magic had to do the same, creating a legendary movie and characters from scratch. Disney came to us for this project because we are revolutionary in design and they wanted something different and truly worthy of the Star Wars force.”

Different and powerful is exactly what Devon achieved in the eight-month time frame the brand was allotted to bring the Star Wars by Devon watch to fruition.  “We knew immediately that we had to incorporate Darth Vader into the design. He is not just the most iconic Star Wars villain, but he is easily the most renowned villain of all times in the movie industry,” says Devon, adding that he worked with his in-house designer, Marko Petrovic to develop the watch. “Marko had already seen the Star Wars movies a hundred times before I even brought the concept of the watch to him. He had the design done within in a week.”Not only was the battle of the design won in a week, but also, the approval from Disney – with no modifications to the design at all – came with stellar speed.  The watch design fully embraces the elements that are the essence of Star Wars and space travel with the elements that are Devon.

To harness the force, Devon incorporates the key elements of Darth Vader and of the TIE Fighter, the star ship of the Imperial fleet. Naturally, the case of the watch is created in all black DLC (Diamond-Like Coating) on stainless steel. The wings of the TIE Fighter aircraft are part of the architecture of the case – spanning out on either side to enhance the bold rectangular case. The main screws that connect the case and lugs are reinterpreted as aircraft turbine intakes, finished with pointed silver screws that emulate the ones on Darth Vader’s helmet. Additionally, the crown is finished with the Galactic Empire logo.

The otherworldly details don’t stop with the case design. Key elements are also executed within the movement. For instance, the existing belt system of the watch utilizes four motor covers that, in this case, are created in red and green to reflect the buttons on Darth Vader’s center console. A center hexagonal disk that features techy TIE Fighter inscriptions not only adds a robotic element, but also clearly outlines the time indications.

The finishing touch is the specially made leather strap that is ribbed to replicate Darth Vader’s gloves.  In short, the Star Wars by Devon watch is the perfect marriage of key elements of both Star Wars and Devon. “Being a huge fan of Star Wars, it was not so hard for me to put my mind into it and come up with a watch that captures the movies’ essence,” says Petrovic. “It was a real treat to watch all the episodes again, but his time from a different perspective.   Blending of the emblems of Star Wars with Devon to create an iconic watch just flowed naturally, as though they were made for each other from the start.”

Just 500 Star Wars by Devon watches will be built over a two-year time period. Each is packaged in a specially built Darth Vader TIE Fighter box. Additionally, Devon has created the ultimate ad that is a bold blend of Star Wars and British spy mentality. It features a man in a tux, replete with Star Wars by Devon watch, wearing the Darth Vader helmet.  "Cinema’s greatest villain, Darth Vader, is now symbolized in an avant-garde watch,” says Devon. “But since 1977, the fans have grown up. They attend black tie events. Now they can wear a bad ass watch to that event, and show off their seductive dark side."

Scott Devon Muses on Star Wars and Devon:

“I was contacted by Disney/Lucas Films last October [2014] inquiring if I'd be interested in making a watch for the new Star Wars films.  Obviously, that call got returned, but I was skeptical. I didn’t think they really knew my brand, what we do, how much and how limited my watches sell for. But they did. It’s why they called.  What I didn't realize at the time was what a cool adventure was ahead of us, and how we might add to an iconic cultural phenomenon.  It wasn't until I was invited to tour ICM Industrial Light & Magic in San Francisco that I had a sense of just how huge this is. The OMG moment of seeing the prototypes of Star Wars, and many of Steven Spielberg’s most famous movies, was incredible. Pixar and Photoshop were invented there. It’s mind blowing.

Then I read a few of George Lucas's articles and how everyone said ‘Star Wars couldn't be made’ and I realized maybe this partnership is meant to be. I mean, I made a world-record car, the Devon GTX, in the worst financial climate since the depression.   And I made a couple of futuristic motorcycles to world acclaim that have all been featured in TV and Movies.  But I always knew my watch project had staying power.  I, along with another maverick car designer, Jason Wilbur, got together on the watch project and everyone in the watch industry said the watch I wanted to make “couldn't be made” so I thought maybe this is a ‘masterpiece’ defined by ‘let's do the impossible.’

It wasn't accomplished with traditional watchmakers, but rather with the US Aerospace Industry. We found a boutique electronic aerospace engineering company that sourced all of our suppliers from the aerospace industry and NASA for us. Our watches are rare, different and incredibly difficult to manufacture. They have more than 300 separate parts just for the movement. Anyway, just ask the team at Lucas how much time they spent on inventing a 2-foot tall creature named Yoda that turned into one of the all time greatest characters in the history of motion pictures. So back to the watch. After five years of wearing various prototypes, and driving motorcycles and supercars, I can say the Force is Strongest With This One. The Star Wars by Devon watch is an epic experience to wear, and working with Disney has also been an epic experience.”
