Holy crap, I've seen one of these before but fellow eccentric vintage jump hour collector Ruud has found two of them at once! You'll hear more and more about his amazing collection of vintage digital jump hours in time to come... Now if I could only convince him to share the wealth, hell, I'm probably the only other person in the world who would actually want this ridiculous rarity.
A vertical drum display not unlike the 1974 Jaz Derby Swissonic (featured-->here) Or my favorite of all time, the 1950s Patek Philippe Cobra (featured-->here)

Chronoswiss Wristmaster - Or the Double-Wide (for you trailer park enthusiasts)
Another "monstr-oddity" from the Basel Fair - the Chronoswiss Wristmaster. Proclaimed as the First Automatic Board Watch for the Wrist, the straight jacket of a watch features a double strap and display. A chronograph (ETA 7750) on the right and a standard 2892-A2 on the left.
Measuring a whopping 84mm x 42mm, this baby ain't for the babysitter to calculate her hours spent with with your screaming kids.

LIP Watches in Mens Vogue and Surface Magazine
Two of my favorite magazines recently featured the newly launched LIP watch collection designed by Roger Tallon (1970's) and Prisca Briquet (2000's). Surface Magazine (www.surfacemag.com) and Mens Vogue (www.mensvogue.com) Funny and well written spots by Leila Brillson of Surface and Liz McDaniel for Mens Vogue.

1970s Influence on Modern Horology (Featuring Watchismo!) Internatonal Herald Tribune
Fellow Brooklynite and famed watch writer and editor of Couture International Jeweler magazine Victoria Gomelsky visited Watchismo headquarters allowing me to show her some of my favorite (and obscure) 1970s watches. All for this big feature in the International Herald Tribune showcasing the influence of that special decade on some of the coolest timepieces in recent years.
A real thrill to have some of my oddball watches featured next to a Horological Machine and Patek Philippe Nautilus. Even more exciting to see the article close with a quote from me! Click the photos to read the article in its entirety or visit the Int'l Herald Tribune-->Here.
The end of the article (where I'm describing the wild variations of Swiss mechanical digital watches trying to survive during the quartz revolution of the 70s);
"Which is why when the Swiss tried some outlandish things in the mechanical arena, they, too, were failures - some of the best examples of which can be found on Watchismo.com, founded in 1998 by Mitch Greenblatt, a New Yorker. Not only does the site sell far-out designer timepieces from the cult French brand Lip, it also has watches, like the Amida Digitrend LRD (Light Reflecting Display) and the Jaz Derby Swissonic, whose retro looks epitomize the decade's eccentric vision.

"They tried to keep up with affordable watches that satisfied the new trend for digital timekeeping," Greenblatt said. "It was an act of desperation that culminated in something really cool."
