A Big Plus from Minus-8 Watches - New Layer 24 Watches

A Big Plus From Minus-8

Many Layers of Substance and Style, New Layer 24 Collection

The Minus-8 Layer 24 embodies the clean restraint and modern industrial spiritual of MINUS-8. Layer 24 is the result of an uncompromised vision to build a watch of individually layered stainless steel. This process took us over a year to develop and resulted in a striking watch that communicates luxury and precision. The result is a stadium effect of 6 layers of 316L bonded surgical steel flowing from the exterior to the interior of the watch face uninterrupted in one unified gesture.

MINUS-8 has changed nothing and everything about making watches. The timepieces are the product of a futurist, architectural mindset and years of challenging our partners to perfect a construction method that radically defies convention. Obsessive attention to a brutalist aesthetic, established Japanese automatic movements, space-age details and best-in-class materials define a collection that represents a new standard within the category. Each watch is a precise industrial machine.

Automatic Miyota 9120 Movement - The Layer 24 holds a power reserve of 40+ hours. 26 jewel bearings reduce friction within the watch case, allowing the highly durable parts to work flawlessly in a virtually maintenance-free environment. At 28,800 vibrations per hour, the Layer 24 has a high accuracy of time keeping. The balance wheel’s oscillations are viewable through the clear sapphire crystal face back and the minute “ticks” of the second hand.

Stainless steel is a steel alloy with a minimum of 10.5% chromium content by mass. It has a natural resistance to magnetic interference, stains and corrosion, which is greatly enhanced through PVD coating. Of the 150 available versions of stainless steel, a very specific type, 316L (the “L” stands for Low Carbon) was chosen for its receptiveness to extremely tight machining tolerances. The watch case is fitted with four individually PVD-coated stacked rings unique to our Layer family.

Physical Vapor Deposition - PVD is an industrial process originally developed by NASA that is used to precisely transfer a vaporized source material in very thin coatings onto a part within a vacuum chamber. The process is most commonly used for a variety of machine elements with strict performance requirements such as surgical tools and drill bits. PVD coatings can be harder and more corrosion-resistant than coatings applied by an electroplating process.

New Qlocktwo W Copper - Time in Words Watch

New Today - The Qlocktwo W Copper

Qlocktwo W Copper brings the ingenious concept of telling the time with words to your wrist. At first glance, it appears to be nothing more than a matrix of seemingly randomly arranged letters. Only the gentle touch of a button reveals IT IS HALF PAST EIGHT. Words are displayed at five-minute intervals, while four small dots give the precise time in minutes.

It does not show the time with hands or digits. Time is indicated on this purist watch as readable text, turning it into a statement: “It is half past nine”. The square watch face has a uniform grid of 110 letters carved from a plate of metal. When the stainless steel button is pressed, words light up in unexpected places which describe the time. The initially random order of the characters lends this wristwatch a mysterious aesthetic. QLOCKTWO makes you aware of the moment. Showing the time becomes an interesting experience for the owner.

New Triwa Limited Edition "The Impossible Triangle" Bjerkesjö No. 1 & 2 Watches

Inspired by the Art of M.C. Escher

The Limited Edition TRIWA Bjerkesjö No. 1 & 2

Swedish watch and accessories experts TRIWA enlist the talents of artist Erik Bjerkesjö on two new watches, simply titled No. 1 and No. 2. Limited to just 300 pieces each, these rare timepieces come emblazoned with the iconic 'Impossible (Penrose) Triangles' etched in gold and silver, respectively.
Looking to create a more conceptual, less utilitarian collection, the duo introduce bold M.C. Escher-inspired forms to replace the standard dial on two models, the impossible objects and infinity designs of the Dutch artist fusing mathematics with decorative design.
"Impossibility in its purest form" - Roger Penrose (Mathematician)
In very limited supply -- don't miss out!
TRIWA x BJERKESJÖ No.1 Limited Edition Escher Triangle
Described as “a design collaboration and artistic concept” with creativity and music at its core, bespoke footwear specialist Bjerkesjö brings his dark and moody aesthetic to the table, the celebrated maker named Vogue Italia Designer of the Year 2014 and Pitti Immagine Uomo’s Who is on Next 2013.
Penrose "Impossible" Triangles
The Penrose triangle, also known as the Penrose tribar, is an impossible object. It was first created by the Swedish artist Oscar Reutersvärd in 1934. The psychologist Lionel Penrose and his mathematician son Roger Penrose independently devised and popularised it in the 1950s, describing it as "impossibility in its purest form". It is featured prominently in the works of artist M. C. Escher, whose earlier depictions of impossible objects partly inspired it.

The entire collaboration falls under Triwa's “Stockholm Sessions” umbrella and in addition to the wristwatches, includes a video and photoshoot highlighting up-and-coming artists based in the titular city.
