Celsius is a French company founded in 2006 by four young entrepreneurs. In March 2010, after three years of research and development with icons like Richard Mille and controversial movement maker "Confrerie Horlogere Hublot" (formerly BNB Concept), Celsius X VI II are launching a range of high-end micromechanical phones featuring some exceptional patented mechanical complications.

The first creation, a cell phone merged with a tourbillion watch featuring a patented Remontage Papillon mechanism, heralds a new generation of objects with high emotional value. CELSIUS X VI II reinvents micro-mechanical applications to humanize the future of communication: pushing the boundaries of established watchmaking, each creation will be a significant step towards the dream of a completely mechanical mobile phone: a phone in which every function will operate mechanically, solely through human energy.

Celsius X VI II has developed its first papillon item as an accessory for the contemporary aesthete. The successive design sketches reveal a quest for perfect elegant - skilfully contoured lines, fine materials and subtle details - through a functionalist approach, beauty without excess. The quality of the manufacture hints at a fine watchmaking influence. The pieces of the case are of the best workmanship, and most of the roughly 547 mechanical components are hand-finished. The aesthetic design plays with transparency to reveal the magic of the technology, to an even greater extent than would be allowed by the butterfly design alone.

The fact nonetheless remains that, tucked away inside its hinge, the item conceals a patented system that is activated when the wings are unfolded. Based on complex micromechanics, this innovation has its name - "Remontage Papillon" (butterfly rewinding) - spelled out on the top wing. Its presence has much to do with making this creation a favorite among enlightened enthusiasts. This ultimate appeal is an asset that opens up new horizons, as Celsius X VI II begins to explore mechanical functions that will revolutionize the world of communications, things never before seen or heard that in the future will become a major sector of the prestige market.

Unseen DeWitt Incognito Watch sells for Half Million!

The DeWitt Incognito Watch Concept No.1 was part of yesterday's Only Watch auction in Monaco but was the only watch not presented to bidders. The buyer, Mr. Jimmy Tan (Prince Jewellery and Watch Company), one of the best-known Hong Kong distributors of Haute Horlogerie paid 400,000 Euros (approx $550,000). The watch will be delivered and hopefully unveiled early in 2008. All that is known about the watch is that it's equipped with a flying tourbillon regulator endowed with a 21-day power reserve. The supporting structure of the mechanism, made from a lithium-aluminium alloy.

Other record breaking sales included the Patek Philippe Nautilus Pièce Unique for 525,000 Euro (approx $740,000) and the follow-up Richard Mille/Philippe Starck collaboration that hammered at 320,000 Euro (approx $450,000).

Out of this World! The Richard Mille Planetarium Tellurium

I'm proud to be one of the first to unveil the Richard Mille Planetarium Tellurium. A massive achievement in horology with an entirely new mechanical interpretation of a centuries old tradition - Depicting the universe as clockwork. Created by the revolutionary independent watch brand, Richard Mille (with obvious watch case design) and developed by mastermind Stephen Forsey and Robert Greubel of CompliTime and an exclusive look into his original drawings for the Planetary Tellurium below the photos...

"Despite its enormous complexity, the Richard Mille Planetarium- Tellurium is designed to be: - easy to understand - easy and practical in use - precise and reliable This means that for the first time, an object of this type will be able to be operated by someone who is not a specialist.

UNDERSTANDABLE VISUAL REPRESENTATION

First of all, the diameter of the earth has for practical and aesthetic reasons been notably enlarged in the Planetarium-Tellurium (in reality, the earth is 109 times smaller than the sun) allowing a good view of the continents and indeed of countries. All the planets can be seen perfectly, although these, as explained above, are not to scale regarding size and distance. The indications (date, equation of time, zodiac) are represented in an easily readable and consistent way, and on a separate area from the layout depicting the rotation of the planets.

• Rotation of the earth on its axis (R) One rotation on its axis in 24 hours. Error: +1° in 7.7 years
• Rotation of the earth around the sun (R) One rotation in 1 year. Error: -1° in 2 million years. This rotation is used as the basis for indicating the seasons, the equinoxes, solstices and zodiac signs, represented in their respective windows.
• Obliquity of the earth (R) Exact rotation, the tilt of the earth’s axis between the two poles: 23.5°. This tilt towards the sun provides a perfect understanding of the phenomenon of the seasons.
• Rotation of the moon on its axis and rotation of the moon around the earth (R) The calculation of the rotation is based on a synodic month of 29.53058912 days (time interval between two new moons). Error : +1° in 168 years.
• Phases of the moon (I) The phases of the moon are represented on the moon itself with a surrounding ring that represents the area visible from the earth.
• Equation of time (I) The equation of time is represented by a hand and a dial divided into sectors on the front part of the planetarium. The hand represents in + or – the minutes that must be added or subtracted from the mean time in order to obtain the true solar time.
• Solar time. Associated with the equation of time, it represents the true time in relation to the sun. This indication is connected to the planetary mechanism and is on the dial.
• Mercury (R) Representation of Mercury performing a rotation around the sun in 87.9 days. Mercury does not rotate around its axis.
• Venus (R) Representation of Venus performing a rotation around the sun in 224.7 days. Venus does not rotate around its axis.
• Sun (R) Static representation of the sun in the centre of the Planetarium Tellurium.
• Time indications - Hour - Minute - Time zones - Date (Perpetual calendar) - Day (Perpetual calendar) - Month (Perpetual calendar) - Year, decade (Perpetual calendar) - Leap year - Power reserve - Seasons, equinoxes, solstices, Zodiac signs

Another unique aspect of the Richard Mille Planetarium-Tellurium is the addition of a perpetual calendar to the astronomic representations in combination with a détente chronometer escapement. The addition of a highly accurate going train and winding barrel of the planetarium to this escapement make this the most accurate clockwork Planetarium Tellurium of its kind.

The clock will be unveiled at the September 2007 Tempus - Temple of Time in Singapore.

Black is Red Hot at the 2007 Tempus Temple of Time

I'm not sure what happened or when but it seems everyone and their mother wants an all black watch these days. Whether it's PVD coated, carbonized, ceramic or whatever, people want to be apart of the horological Blacksploitation of luxury timepieces. So...that brings me to the September 2007 Tempus "Temple of Time" watch festival in Singapore. 'Only Watch' 2007 - Rare Limited Edition Wristwatch Auction

The first "Only Watch" auction of 2005 was so wildly successful raising €1.9 million Euros for charity (Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy), there was little doubt they'd try to follow it up. Two years later, it's back with more rare machines from todays most desirable brands. The event, commissioned by Prince Albert II of Monaco, will offer 35 limited edition and one-of-a-kind prototype watches, or as the horologically correct say "Piéce Unique". The watches will be auctioned at the upcoming 2007 Monaco Yacht Show by Antiquorum. Last years largest fundraiser of €285,000 was the collaboration of Richard Mille and Philippe Starck. They have teamed up again for the ultra-futuristic model titled, “An integral interpretation in titanium" (Shown Above).

New Azimuth Chrono Gauge Mecha-1 BMF

The latest of the Azimuth Chrono Gauge Mecha-1 BMF series. Can't afford a $250,000 Richard Mille? You might consider this $2900 wristular dashboard chronograph complete with an arching direct jump hour display powered by a modified Valjoux 7750 automatic movement.

Also just unveiled, the Azimuth Round 1 Bi-Retrograde. The top arc indicates the minutes while the bottom arc displays the hours with hands that snap back to their starting positions after reaching the ends of their respective cycles via a modified ETA 2836-2 mechanical movement

Azimuth is also annoucing their new SP-1 Mechanique concept watch. Nicknamed the ‘spaceship watch’ with a rendition of Earth, a globular decorative feature that makes one rotation every 60 seconds. A jumping hour display powered by a Unitas 6497 movement finely finished in Cotes de Geneve stripes, a rotating disc, framed by the short end of the 3-dimensional minute hand, is a jumping hour complication. The broad minute hand comes finished with a skeletonized outline that resembles a space shuttle hurtling across the universe. Link

Advance look of the Richard Mille RM011 & RM016

Not slated for public viewing until late March, here is a leaked peek of the Richard Mille RM011 Flyback Chronograph. Vaucher base with a Dubois Dépraz module, an "annual calendar-flyback-chrono" with an extra 60 minute countdown at nine o'clock. The month indicator is at 4 o'clock. The price will range between 50 to 60 thousand euros. (The lower end of their price range!)
