The Pita Windmills (Molinos) Prototype from AHCI Watchmaker Aniceto Jiménez Pita of Barcelona

I'm honored to be the first watch blog to share the brand new prototype from Pita Barcelona. The Pita Molinos (Windmills) project presents a watch with no hands and no crown. Floating hour and minute gear wheels rotate around the dial to indicate the time. Shown above, the time is 12:15. The finished models should be ready by September-October 2009 and they are already taking reservations at www.pita.es

Pita Molinos (Pita Windmills) - prototype status - by AHCI watchmaker Aniceto Jiménez Pita

No hands timepiece. Floating hour and minute wheels telling directly the time, without hands. Wheels and cannon pinion elegantly maximized with embedded precious stones (laquered finish in shown prototype) to indicate the time, in an unprecedented and ethereal manner.

Symmetric case, no crown. Pita-005 movement featuring patented Pita-TSM System (Time Setting Mechanism), replacing remontoire and winding systems developed by Pita.

Designed and handmade in Barcelona Spain. Short and numbered series.

Fully customizable. Unlimited assortment of dials, hands, straps and buckles to choose from.

Available in 18 ct. yellow / white / rose Gold, or Platinum 950.

Dimensions: 42mm, height 9,4mm. Strap 20mm.

Denis Guidone Concept Timepieces - Ora Unica Scribble Watch Ora il Legale Daylight Savings Tilt clock & Other Prototype Designs

Save yourself from the arduous task of setting time forwards or backwards at daylight savings with the concept clock "Ora ilLegale" designed by Denis Guidone.

It will eventually be produced by NAVA, and will be displayed at the upcoming Milan Design Week. The designer, Denis Guidone, has had one other concept posted on Yanko, a clock too, how about that!

"Denis Guidone was just selected as the winner of the international design competition Adamo Eva. His whimsical scribble watch design called “Ora Unica”, meaning One Hour, is a wonderful contrast of chaos and order mixed together. In their words, “The hour and minute hands are represented by a single line drawn on two circular faces, which turn one inside the other. Both faces together resemble a graphical gesture, a doodle that changes as time passes.”

New from Rado, the 50 year anniversary limited edition Jasper Morrison designed "Ceramica Chronograph". Only ten of each will be made. I like the variation of chrono registers but $6500 for Quartz?

The Time of One Hand Clapping - Botta Uno Automatic

Two hands? That just so second millennium. Get with the times man and check out the minimal Botta Uno one handed watch. Designed by Klaus Botta and available in mechanical automatic or quartz (229-490 Euros).

Seconds? minutes?? Screw it all to hell. With the Uno, be on time-ish.

Ikepod Black Hole Finally Seeing the Light of Day

Up until this point, the newly (re)launched Ikepod had a secret watch called the Black Hole, only being shown as a silhouette (below), and a limited edition of 66. Now, thanks to Kong at the Purists Watchprosite, who photographed the now likely sold out model at the Tempus event in Singapore, we can finally see what was just over the event horizon.

The Black Hole is actually an all black version of their Horizon series with optical illusion dial of gradating holes convexing from the ellipse case.

The Ikepod Has Landed...Again

Marc Newson's iconic watches are back, this time with more expensive materials, extensive (re)designs and overall exclusivity. I met with new owner and prominent art collector Adam Lindemann (for QP Magazine) in his New York office to discuss the rebirth of the brand famously represented by flightless birds. The cases have been redesigned to allow for Newson's originally intended perfect ellipse, now only made of precious metals and fit with better movements. While Ikepod was in hibernation, Newson's reputation grew considerably with record breaking sales like his famous 1980s Lockheed Lounge which recently sold at Sotheby's for nearly a million dollars - The most ever for a living designer. Newson has also been exhibited more often as an artist than a designer as with his recent show at the influential Gagosian Gallery in New York City.

Max Bill Chronoscope for Junghans

In 1962 Swiss artist Max Bill (1908-1994) created a few mechanical watches for the German company Junghans. Reissued in recent years, this rare Chronoscope model has a certain-something, its minimalism is just plain-attractive. Apparently this particular version isn't sold anymore and the only one I could find was at-->Link

A product of the Bauhaus generation, Max Bill was pupil Walter Gropius and kindred spirit of Le Corbusier and Mies van der Rohe – was a virtuoso designer and creative artist, as his diverse activities as a painter, architect, sculptor, teacher and designer amply demonstrate. His work is characterised by a clarity of design and precise proportions.
