Watchismo's Timewarp - Max Büsser's 19th Century Steel & Gunmetal Pocket Watch Collection

After many opportunities to address my proclivities in my Timewarp column in QP Magazine, I wanted to turn the loupe on people who never fail to impress me, to explore what makes them tick. First on my list was modern pioneer, Maximilian Büsser and his rare & unusual 19th century unsigned laminated iron, gunmetal and steel pocket watches.

Watchismo's Timewarp for QP Magazine - Vintage Sideview Displays

My new column, 'Watchismo's Timewarp' for British QP Magazine (Issue #23) is now available.

For the series premiere, I write about one of my favorite species, the Sideview display like the 1958 Patek Philippe 'Cobra' prototype below. Its radical use of digital and graphic rollers was likely too ahead of its time. Originally featured --> Link

1940s LeCoultre DuoPlan Drivers Watch

Triangular cased watch by LeCoultre (circa 1940). Angled on the wrist allowing time-viewing while driving. Featuring a stainless steel case, stepped bezel, 15 jewel movement and back-winder. Drivers watches by LeCoultre are very rare.

The Duoplan movements, developed in 1925 to aid reliability in increasing miniaturization, were arranged on split levels leading to the creation of the world's smallest Caliber 101.

1974 Waltham Jump Hour Chronograph

Rarely do you find a digital jumping hour chronograph, but this rare 1974 Waltham 1376 TDBK (also found by brands Tenor Dorly, Kelek, Sandoz, Elgin, and Precimax) is a rare bird by any name. Likely a face only a mother could love but I'd find myself willing to breast feed this one.

A direct reading chrono with no hands other than the stopwatch and seconds. A digital jump hour display for hours, minutes and date.One of a few 1970s bell-bottom chronographs that will be featured in my upcoming QP Magazine column, 'Watchismo's Timewarp'.
